The following comments have been made by Chapter members:

I have received great help from being a member of not only NAELA but the Texas Chapter. No other organization is as on point with my practice as this group and I enjoy professional relationships with the finest elder law attorneys in the state of Texas. If you intend to practice Elder Law, this is a"must join" organization.

In the rapidly-developing and rapidly-changing field of elder law, attorneys who want to provide their clients with the best services need to have up-to-date information on laws, regulations, proposed changes, strategies, and planning options. NAELA is the only good source for all that information.

Texas NAELA also provides attorneys who have a serious commitment to clients who are aging or who have disabilities an opportunity to come together and exchange ideas and advanced techniques. It is hard to imagine how an attorney could even attempt to provide adequate services to clients without being a member of NAELA. NAELA, meanwhile, helps its members pursue the goal of providing excellent services to all clients.

"Prior to my attending various NAELA conferences (both state and national), only a small portion of my practice was devoted to elder law. However, once I began to attend such conferences and learn from the experiences and knowledge of others, it was as if my eyes had begun to open. The first national conference that I attended turned out to a be a watershed event as it got me "hooked" on elder law. Becoming immersed in certain aspects of elder law turned out to be a milestone in my life for various reasons.

First, and probably most importantly, I have had more satisfaction in the practice of law than I had ever previously received - most clients truly appreciate your assistance (last week a client even told me that they had a grandchild named after me since they were so appreciative!) . It is a wonderful feeling to know that you are truly helping others in a time of need. Hugs are commonplace. Secondly, being an elder law attorney resulted in finding my niche, and I look forward to coming to work each day.

Of course, since the laws of each state vary, it is my opinion that you must stay current in the state in which you practice. Thus, joining the Texas chapter of NAELA is essential to being an elder law attorney in Texas - especially in these times when the laws or interpretations of rules seem to be changing weekly. I can't speak for anyone else, but NAELA, it's Texas chapter, and so many of it's members have helped change my life in such a positive way that I can only wish that others who have an interest in this area of law could be as fortunate."

To really learn, one must study at the feet of the masters. TXNAELA provides the means to become not only a successful elder law attorney but also a most learned attorney. In the 1990's when I attended my first TXNAELA conference I realized that that one 6 hour conference provided me with more new information about the practice of law than any other conference. Of any legal organization, I find that TXNAELA has been my greatest asset.

I strongly urge all Texas Elder Law Attorneys to join the Texas NAELA Chapter and then the list serve. As we are all aware, the laws and regulations governing our area of the law can change rapidly. This best place I know to learn about the latest issues and ever changing environment of Texas Elder Law is the Texas list serve. The list serve allows the neophyte or the most experienced practitioners to ask questions and seek advice about cases and issues. The collective wisdom available to those on the list serve is an invaluable resource to any Elder Law Attorney. The list serve is a better resource that all the books in your library because it is always up to date and the members can provide specific advice to the facts of your case something no resource text can do. I constantly learn new things by reading the list and unlike many other lists you will not be drowned in posts. The list is very manageable and when there are several posts at one time you can be sure it is about a "hot" issue that we all need to worry about. I believe membership to the list is one of the most valuable aspects of membership in Texas NAELA.

In today's fast changing legal environment, there is no better source of valuable information for our firm than the Texas NAELA Website. The Texas NAELA website has become an indispensable site to and for Texas Elder Law Attorneys.

I would never have had the motivation nor the resources to make the move to Elder Law, without help from the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
In the Texas Chapter of NAELA, we strive to carry on that tradition of helpfulness and professionalism at the state level. And though I've been doing this eleven years, it is still essential to my practice to participate in the Texas Chapter's listserv, consult with colleagues and presenters at the conferences and draw on the resources at our website.
